It’s October everyone!  Best month of the year!  Let all collectively do the happy dance, shall we?

Yesterday was one of those days were every single one of my kids wanted something from me at the exact same time.  By the end of the day I felt like I was being pecked to death by chickens.  This means I promptly left the house after all the littles were tucked into their sheets and went to Old Navy approximately 20 minutes before they closed.  You know those workers just loved me.  But the good news is, while I was there picking up a few new pairs of jeans for the boys, I stumbled upon these amazing pair of coated skinnies.  I’m not kidding, I have never put on pants like these before.  Like, I mean drop everything and run don’t walk to get yourself a pair.  I’m not even usually that fond of skinny jeans, especially on me but these are so flattering.  I bought this pair last night, and plan on ordering this color today.

Anyways, let’s talk about this outfit shall we, because these two tops merit a word or two at least.  I love to pair fancy items like silk and sequins with distressed boyfriend jeans, the contrast is surprising and keeps the outfit from feeling too formal for a Monday afternoon.  I don’t think I ever would have bought this color block sequin shell if I hadn’t stumbled upon it in the J Crew Factory store while on a shopping trip with my sister recently.  Its perfectly neutral color block sequins just wooed me right into the dressing room and then I was a goner.  The way I can pair it with a blouse for a funky twist on the traditional preppy, just makes my heart sing.  It’s been on serious repeat for the last two weeks and I don’t care who knows it.  I’m a big huge fan of J Crew Factory, and I love that you can shop it online now.  Woot, woot.  So this silk blouse.  I have been wanting to order a silk blouse from Everlane for the last few months, and for some insane reason hadn’t gotten around to it until last week.  What on earth was I waiting for?  This is the most amazing top I have ever owned, and it’s possibly the softest item of clothing to ever touch my skin, which, you know, makes me all kinds of happy. Custom buttons, impeccable fit and perfect drape, seal the deal.  As a maker of clothes, any time I find something so expertly crafted, I feel like I need to shout it from the rooftops.  You can join Everlane here, and I highly suggest that you do.  Their basic tees are totally the bomb too.

Thanks Mandy. Also I can’t remember my nail color, I’ll have to ask the lady at the nail salon the next time I go in, but it’s like the perfect color of white.

One more thing…what are your thoughts about a 40 year old wearing distressed jeans? Is there an age limit?!

No way Mandy! I think anyone can wear distressed jeans! The key is the jean. There is classy distressing and trashy distressing. For instance, this pair is lined on the distressing which I love, so you don’t see any skin or ahem, under-garments. I also think the wash plays a big factor as well. But I’ve seen distressed jeans on much older women than forty and they still look fantastic and classy. ;-)

I love that you’re responding to comments! Super cute outfit. Since seeing your black Everlane t, I’ve been checking out their site. Can you comment on the sheerness of the white t’s? Are you able to wear them?

Hi Carrie. I have Everlane’s white v-neck tee and it’s awesome. I don’t think its sheer at all, probably less so than my other white tees. And it’s super soft.

I LOVE your zara jeans here. Just wondering if you could compare the fit to another brand, like Gap or Lucky or something, how would you say? True to size? Thanks!

The sizes are more European, so a 2 fits like a zero, etc. I bought these 2 sizes bigger than normal because they are actually skinnies, but I wanted them to fit like boyfriend jeans. If I had to compare, probably H&M. Hope this helps!
