This time of year is basically a constant mad dash.  From the beginning of birthday season in October until New Years, I feel like life speeds up to triple it’s usual pace, especially with four kids, a business to run and a baby to chase, and I’m lucky if I stop twice a day for a good deep breath.  I don’t think this is a good or healthy way to be.  Last night, I called a time out, and me, Mr. and the littles spent the entire evening decorating our Christmas tree.  They did such a great job this year trimming the branches with ornaments.  I love to watch them grow bigger and more capable.  It’s simultaneously one of the most wonderful and heartbreaking experiences of motherhood.  Sometimes I just with they’d stay little forever, but then, I love the little people they are becoming too…

This is such a typical outfit for me right now.  I’m really into plaid this season, I don’t know why, but I can’t get enough of it.  And puffer vests.  I’m so glad I never got rid of this one.  Anyways, I’m always hefting a baby, or boxes, or rolls of fabric, or spreading patterns or something or other these days, and I find myself in a pair of cropped pants and a button-up more often than not.  I’m cool with that.  Life is about seasons, and I’m in a working one… although, I need warmer shoes.  Ladies of the colder climates, what the “h” do you wear on your feet when the weather is frigid and wet, that still maintains some level of style?  Please, share.  I’ve got riding boots and Hunter Wellies, but really what else?

I live in Canada and have tried so many different winter boot options over the years. By far my favourites are these http://store.manitobah.ca/collections/mukluks/products/nappa-mukluk

They aren’t exactly fashion forward- I ditched the dream of fashionable winter footwear years ago- but they are incredibly comfortable, warm, waterproof, and great for icy weather!

They also make a shorter one which is great for ladies with shorter calves. http://store.manitobah.ca/collections/mukluks/products/nappa-half-mukluk

Good luck looking for warm footwear!

Something I do when I really want to wear flats in the winter is I wear a pair of those no-show socks and grab a pack of adhesive toe warmers. They stay warm for 6-8 hours, so it does the trick when I need a change from boots. :)

I’ll freely admit it – I wear my Bean Boots any chance I get! They aren’t the most stylish things in the world, but they certainly keep my feet dry. My next purchase will probably be this pair of Sorel boots – http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001OTYXCM/ref=sr_1_1?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1386078878&sr=1-1.
I was out shopping on Black Friday and saw lots of girls wearing these in the snow.

  5. I’m loving the whole look as always. The green and blue plaid is my favorite, I need to get one pronto!

I live in a pretty warm climate so I rarely have to worry about keeping my feet warm. Would booties be warm enough?

Hi! I live in Seattle and this season I’m all about booties! And cute socks… I’ve decided that if your socks are cute, you can wear them with anything and you don’t need to hide them ;)

I live in Colorado and my go to boots this year have been the frye carmen stitch short booties. I bought them in a tan color and they work with everything. I have two other pair of Frye riding boots, buy I tend to get soooo hot wearing jeans and then boots half way up my legs. The booties keep me just right. For days without rain or snow, I picked up a pair of suede ankle boots.

This is the dilemma of my life! I just got a pair of boots super similar to the Sorel Joan of Arctics but I am not in love with them – they are so big and clunky and great if you are outside in the snow but not great if you have to go in and out of stores and other places! I am LOVING the mukluks that someone posted above – SUPER cute! When the weather is like what it is right now here (BRUTAL and snow up to your knee) footwear is a low priority but it is so hard when our winters are up and down – what does one wear?!? I am eager to see all of your responses :)

Being from Iceland I know cold weather a little too well..

First of all; don’t go outside in ballet flats and no socks! Wear leather boots. Don’t wear pleather, plastic or anything like that. It traps the cold inside as well as it can be sweaty and makes you feel cold and wet, that is if you don’t have a layer of wool inside the boot/shoe and you’ll also need to wear socks (cotton or bamboo are good) even with the woolen layer inside. Secondly, go half a size up so you can wear woolen or cashmere socks, no polyester, acrylic or other man-made materials get to touch my toes. Suede is not good as the fabric is hard to clean in case of snow, salt and muddy snow, but leather is easy to clean and stays mostly waterproof. Also good to spray some waterproofing spray on the boots.

Good luck with combating those cold toes!

I’m with you! I live in SC where it goes from 45 degrees to 70 to 39 all in one week! But I hate having cold feet. I got a pair of Jessica Simpson leather ankle boots that have saved my life. Suede tall boots are a comfy option without looking like bedtime shoes and ankle booties are awesome and everywhere this season. Target has some online for a cheaper option. Aldo and urban outitters both have beautiful suede options. Good luck!

First – thanks for all of the fabulous budget-friendly links you always provide. Out of every fashion-related blog I’ve ever read, yours is the first where I feel like I could actually mimic a look without going outside of my means. Nice job, lady!
Next, although I live in Northern California (Bay Area) and am not dealing with temperatures like yours, I’m still a cold wimp so I where a variety of boots all winter. I also got booties from Old Navy and have been surprisingly pleased with them. They were so cheap I assumed they would fall apart or be really uncomfortable, and they have done neither. And I’m a teacher who is on her feet all day, so that’s saying a lot. Basically, I rotate between those booties, another pewter pair from Anthro, riding boots, and then a mid-rise sort of “touch chick” black boot from Nine West. I can’t wear flats in the winter . Too dang cold.
Finally, my baby girl is Eva too, (we pronounce it like Ava, it’s actually short for Evangeline), and yes, shopping for baby girls is soooo dreamy!! Thanks for those links as well!
